Denmark comes in second among EU innovation leaders, with its innovation performance well above EU average.

The 2017 edition of European Innovation Scoreboard reveals that innovation in the European Union (EU) is on a continued rise. Sweden tops the list followed by Denmark, with Denmark leading in various innovation indicators selected by the European Commission. Denmark’s relative strengths within the innovation areas were found to be in the human resources, innovation friendly environment and attractive research systems.

The 2017 edition marks a conceptual advancement, as the measurement framework now better captures phenomena such as digitisation, entrepreneurship, investment in skills, and public-private innovation partnerships. The scoreboard summarizes 27 different indicators grouped in the four main types: framework conditions, investment, innovation activities and impact.
