The event was held under the theme of “Transforming Society towards a more Sustainable Path”

On September 10-11 2018, the Embassy of Denmark in Korea and the Korean Ministry of Environment hosted a business forum on circular economy. This forum aimed to seek opportunities for cooperation between the two countries under the topic of circular economy.

A Danish delegation visited Korea and participated in the event, comprised of Flemming Besenbacher (Chairman of Carlsberg), Ditte Lysgaard Vind (Managing partner of Lendager Group), Thomas Dalsgaard (Executive Vice President of Ørsted), Hans Bloch (CEO of NOMI4s), Finn Mortensen (Executive Director of State of Green), and Jan Riemer (Senior Technical Advisor at the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs).

A two-day program was made: on day 1, site visits were conducted to the Sudokwon Landfill Management and Seoul Upcycling Centre (SUC), the latter where networking sessions with various start-ups to share new ideas and successful business cases were held. The day ended with a dinner hosted by H.E. Eun-Kyung Kim, the Korean Minister for Environment, where the minister emphasised the need for stronger ties between the two nations and encouraged closer cooperation. On day 2, the Korean Ministry of Environment and the embassy jointly held a circular economy business forum with participation by companies representing sustainability initiatives. During the forum it was highlighted how the companies are working on circular economy to achieve the goal of environmentally sustainable and energy efficient businesses.

Unleashing the potential for circular economy and seeking new partnership opportunities (commercially, within R&D and between government institutions) will be an important result of the upcoming P4G Summit and bilateral Danish/Korean consultations.
