12.12.2017  09:30

On Tuesday, 12 December, the respective embassies of Denmark, Finland, Norway, and Sweden in Korea and the Korean Ministry of Gender Equality and Family (MOGEF) co-hosted the second ever Korea-Nordic Policy  Forum on Gender Equality in Seoul.

Denmark, together with the other Nordic countries, is highly engaged in efforts to reach the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and the second Policy Forum on Gender Equality exemplifies the importance that the Nordic countries put on gender equality.

With the theme ‘Targeting Gender Equality in Work and Family Life Structures”, the forum was a follow up on the first policy forum on gender equality held in December 2016. The forums are a direct result of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed by the
Nordic embassies and MOGEF calling for increased cooperation and exchange in gender equality policies, practices, and knowledge.

During the forum, experts from the Nordic countries gave presentations that exemplified the Nordic stance on gender equality. From Denmark, Claus Eilersen, former Senior Vice President for Novo Nordisk Pharma in South Korea and Japan discussed the importance of women in the business sector to increase productivity and diversity. From Korea, Minister H.E. Hyun-back Chung of the MOGEF and President Insook Kwon of the Korean Women’s Development Institute participated. The speakers were further accompanied by representatives from the Korean business sector and civil society.
