Embassy of Denmark promotes Danish food in Seoul

15.09.2015  06:06

The first event, titled the Nordic Food and Beverage Promotion, was held 7-8 September at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Seoul in collaboration with the respective representations of Finland, Norway, and Sweden in Korea. Organized with the aim of informing Korean companies about the Nordic food and beverage industries, the event on the 8th consisted of an informational seminar, B2B meetings, networking sessions, live cooking shows by Nordic chefs, and a lunch buffet of Nordic dishes made with the ingredients supplied by the participating companies.

Danish Ambassador Thomas Lehmann gave the welcoming address at the seminar on the 8th saying it was a “great pleasure to take part in the opening of the first ever joint Nordic food event in Seoul and in Korea”, which was attended by roughly 300 industry experts representing some 90 companies from Korea. Participating in the promotion were 10 Danish companies of various industry sectors, including dairy (Arla Foods), seafood (Royal Greenland, AquaPri), pork and pork products (Danish Crown, 3-STAR), egg products (Danaeg), cereal (Nature DK), baby formula (Mille Baby), beer (Krenkerup), and birch drinks (Sealand Birk).
The Embassy of Denmark will continue its promotion of Danish food with cultural events open to the general public. Under the theme of ‘DELICIOUS DENMARK’, cooking classes will be held where participants can try their hand at making Danish food themselves. Events have been planned for September and October at the ‘Mad og Hygge’ studio in Shinchon where participants can make a typical Danish homecooked meal, as well at Daelim Museum in Jongno for a trendy cooking class with a Danish chef. While Denmark has always been a strong agricultural and food producing country, the past decade has seen a significant revitalization in the quality and innovation within the Danish gastronomic scene - a trend labelled the ‘New Nordic Cuisine’.
